Era Virtual's Weekend Madness
Era Alaska has several charter flights booked for this weekend starting 0600z Saturday Jan 12th through till about 0600z Monday Jan 14th. These charters have been mirrored from the show Flying Wild Alaska, but have been slightly changed to fit the pilots of Era Virtual. All aircraft flown must be the same as required for each flight. Any sub airplanes flown, the flight will be rejected.
Below are the charters available for the weekend
GOOD LUCK!
"Keep The Dirty Side Down"
===================================================================================================================
Barrow to St Laurence Island Flight # CH03:
( THIS FLIGHT IS MEANT FOR QUALIFIED RANKED PILOTS ONLY )
The island of St Laurence has chartered several loads of explosives with Era to be flown to Savoonga Airport (PASA) for there Bowhead whale hunting season come spring. The hunters of St Laurence Island like to get their equipment ready ahead of time, so they have asked us to deliver their explosives soon before its too late to prepare for the season. We have already got the proper permits to do these flights so no need to worry about that. We have two B1900 planes ready to go in Barrow and they will be loaded with 3,000lbs of explosives.
Flight Plan:
PABR-PASA
You are the professional bush pilot here, so we trust that you file and fly the proper flight plan as needed. Keep in mind the challenge is flying as close to the Russian Airspace as possible with out crossing over. In real life that would cause severe problems so be careful. Return flight back to Barrow with what ever they want to send back with you. That part is up to you.
NOTE:
In your VAFS there are sometimes cargo that is dynamite or some type of explosives listed. If there isn't try backing out of VAFS and re-entering until you see it on the list. This is important for the flight record because of the realism and damage can be caused from the flight. Also, VAFS pays out more for this type of cargo. All weather needs to be set to real world or use any weather generator that makes the weather real world. Load cargo weight to 3,000lbs and fuel as needed.
==================================================================================================================
Barrow to Atqasuk Flight#CH05:
The small village of Atqasuk is in the process of replacing several of their fuel cells in the village that run generators through the winter months. They have chartered several flights with Era to transport the cells down to their village. This will go on all weekend so as many as we can get to them would be great. We have two C208s in Barrow for the flights ready to go so if the plane is available its first come first fly. Weather may be a factor for the flights so be sure to check all weather ahead of time to make sure you can get in and out safely. The fuel cells will be empty and weighs Approx 2,500lbs so plan your fuel as needed.
Flight Plan:
PABR-PATQ
You are the professional bush pilot here, so we trust that you can file and fly your flight plan correctly with out any problems. This is not a tuff flight, but again weather may be a factor.
NOTE:
In your VAFS there aren't any cargo listed as "fuel cell", so load accordingly (no rubber dog poop) Make sure in flight Sim you load your cargo weight to 2,500lbs and fuel as needed. All weather needs to be set to real world or use any weather generator that makes the weather real world.
===================================================================================================================
Bethel to kwigillingok Flight#CH04:
The city of kwigillingok has invited Counselors, teachers and principals from all western Alaskan Schools for a two day Retreat with informational workshops on a wide range of topics. They have chartered many flights with Era from the Bethel Hub where they are coming in from Anchorage. There are several time slots for the retreat, so we will be busy transporting all weekend as needed. We have several C206s located in Bethel so if the plane is available then first come first fly.
Flight Plan:
PABE-A85
You are the professional bush pilot here, so we trust that you can file and fly your flight plan correctly with out any problems. See CAUTION NOTES below.
CAUTION:
Kwigillingok airstrip is small and narrow so get your charts out and be ready for that as well as HIGH cross winds known in this area.
NOTE:
In your VAFS the passengers will load automatically so make sure your plane in FS is loaded to the same. All weather needs to be set to real world or use any weather generator that makes the weather real world.
===================================================================================================================
Unalakleet to Nalato Flight#CH06
Several families from Nalato are planning a trip to Anchorage for the weekend and will be flown to Anchorage via Unalakleet ERA daily flights. This is a perfect opportunity for green horns to get in some flight time in with the C206. This should be an easy flight to run out there and on Saturday and bring the families back to Unalakleet for their connection flights. Sunday all day will be returning the families back to Nalato safely as they return to Unalakleet from Anchorage. should be an easy couple of days of flying.
Flight Plan:
PAUN-PANU
NOTE:
In your VAFS the passengers will load automatically so make sure your plane in FS is loaded to the same. All weather needs to be set to real world or use any weather generator that makes the weather real world.

Holy Cow!! Nice flight down from PABR to PASA...just routine at FL165. Chatted with ERA066 ,Stacy, who had just landed at PASA and was now departing back to PABR. Stacy said to watch out cause the visibility got down to 1/4 mi. when he arrived and he barely found the Runway. I told him that I was inbound and going to use the GPS approach to R/W 05. I crossed the field at 2400' and saw the runway in some light overcast. I thought, no sweat, its cleared up. I reached my IAF and made my turn for the visual approach to R/W 05. I picked up the lights at 3 mis. or so and thought to myself, self, its cleared up! Great! No problems landing. I cleaned up the airrplane, dumped the gear and one notch of flaps slowing as I decended. Runway clearly in sight now so I deleted the GPS and went to strictly visual. All of a sudden at 500' the windshield goes blue/green and I see nothing!!! Still decending and about to drop one more notch of flaps I madly search for the runway or anything I recognize...NOTHING! Turn and bank indicater says I'm banking left, sliding off course and continuing to decend!. I punch up the GPS again and find I have overshot the runway at very low altitude. Turning towards the ocean to avoid unseen obstructions, I bank back toward the IAF as shallow as posssible....apparently, not shallow unuf as I get the warning of "over banking"......RATS!!! 2+ hrs. for a lousy rating and I still haven't landed. I pick up the IAF and start to line up with the runway which has once again come into view....same scenerio except this time I'm ready. The R/W disappears again but this time I'm lined up perfectly. I hold my course and speed as I gently let down...searching all the while fo rthe runway...NOTHING! Then, all of a sudden its there, 250' below me and I'm over the numbers. Drop more flaps quicky, chop the power and decend. Landedat 113 mph, jammed on the brakes and punched F2 for reverse. Got her stopped at the end of the runway. Narrowly avoiding an overrun. This flight was a one of those hours of boredom followed by moments of stark terror!
Welcome to Savoonga Airport !!! This time there was no Seal Fin Yack in my aeroplane...but there was something else!!! I love ERA!!!!
