Kind of a change from the usual aircraft. This week we will go all the way back to the basic Cessna 172 as our contest aircraft. Whaat!?!?

A stinkin' 172Cessna 172!?!?! Yep..when was the last time you even started your 172? I know its been a while for the EVENTS TEAM.

So, instead of using the 206 be sure to use a C-172 to fly this weeks contest. Everyone should have one so there should be no problem or conflict due to the Type Rating Exams that are currently taking place. The distances are short and, as always, you can fly them as many times as you wish. Also, one other change. The fuel quantity will start at the usual 20% and that will have to last you for the entire circuit! So watch you GPH!

So, for this event we will fly from:

KASIGLUK (PFKA) to NUNAPITCHUK Flt. Number: ERR7H3109 Z09 - 16A / 172 / PAYLOAD= 170 LBS. / FUEL= 30% (110.4 LBS) 3.3 NM

Next will be: NUNAPITCHUK to ATMAVITLUAK Flt. Number: ERR7H3110 16A - 4A2 / 172 / PAYLOAD= 170 LBS. / FUEL REMAINING 5.4 NM

Next will be: ATMAVITLUAK to BETHEL Flt. Number: ERR7H3111 4A2 - PABE / 172 / PAYLOAD= 170 LBS. / FUEL REMAINING 14 NM

Next will be: BETHEL to AKIAK Flt. Number: ERR6/3170A PABE - AKI / 172 / PAYLOAD= 170 LBS. / FUEL REMAINING 19 NM

Next will be: AKIAK to TULUKSAK Flt. Number: ERR6/3170B AKI - TLT / 172 / PAYLOAD= 170 LBS. / FUEL REMAINING 13 NM

Next will be: TULUKSAK to BETHEL Flt. Number: ERR7H3171 TLT / PABE / 172 / PAYLOAD=170 LBS. / FUEL REMAINING 32NM

Remember to pay closer attention to you GPH and use the 172

Pretty simple straight forward flying...so grab yourself a snack and your favorite beverage and give it a try!

Contest begins at 0000 Hrs. your time zone SATURDAY and ends 24 hrs later at 0000 hrs. Sunday.

REMEMBER TO PLACE "LANDING CONTEST" IN THE PIREPS COMMENT BOX!! Group flights are encouraged!

Hope to see some "greased" landings and lot's of participation!!

Wow! Typical Alaska weather. 14 knt. crosswind, low ceiling, rain, flat light and featureless terrain! Top it off with being "ham fisted" while flying the light 172 and you've got a fun day!!

We have a WINNER! This weeks contest was won by RVF660, Tomas Bandoria! Well done Tomas! He landed his C-172 at Atmautluak's gravel runway with a landing rate of --58 FPM. I don't know what kind of weather Tomas encountered but there were some strong crosswinds and sketchy visibility at times that made for some interesting approaches. Typical Alaska! An Awards Badge will be added to your Profile, Tomas.

Since we have ongoing Type Rating Exams, it's a little hard to set up a landing contest that allows everyone to participate. So anticipate that next weeks contest will be a "Have It Your Way" contest where you may use any airplane that you are qualified to fly. After that, you may find that the Landing Contest may become a little more difficult with longer legs, mountainous terrain and more advanced aircraft. As winter approaches there may be icing issues and increased IMC weather.

If you have any suggestion feel free to post them in the Forum.
